Well I’m finally on the road!! I didn’t get very far initially! After leaving the beautiful Elvina Bay, I drove 2 kms down the road to the Tuites at Newport! Once again Andy, Virpi and the boys took me in for a couple of days, thanks guys. I’m thinking about getting a sign for their guest room door…”Mick’s Room”. I drove out of Sydney a little later than anticipated, Thursday actually. I did fit all that stuff into the rocket, I can’t believe it myself. After picking up an awesome custom made awning from North Sails, I cruised up the coast and spent my first night on the road at friends Cath and Tom’s house in Terrigal. Great meal, great conversation, a really pleasant first night on the road.
Day 2 an hours drive to brother John and Lydia’s, so good to catch up.
I’m only 2 hours out of Sydney, it is such an amazing coastline, deserted beaches, stunning views. I rose early to see the sunrise at the Norah Head Lighthouse, check out my photos, I’m amazed at how good the camera is on my iphone.
Day 3 I cruised up to Silverwater on Lake Macquarie where I stayed at a families house that I’ve know for a very long time, the Spithills – I’ve been involved with all the Spithill’s sailing careers in one way or another – such a great family. A beautiful setting right on the lake, so good I set up my office under my awning, on the lawn. After a couple of days it is going to be hard to leave.
The beetle is on fire. I’m cruising at a top speed of 72kms per hour. A lot of cars and trucks have overtaken me, but I must admit I have overtaken my first truck and no it wasn’t parked on the side of the road.
Heading to Hebbo’s mum and dads at Bulahdelah next.
Great Stuff Miller. I’m so glad you have started your adventure.
Look forward to seeing you in Noosa
